This page will be discussing a sexual orientation under the asexual umbrella. This page is not discussing a gender identity, though anyone of any gender identity may use the term graysexual as a self-descriptor. No one other than the individual pondering whether or not to identify as graysexual may determine if an individual is graysexual. This term was coined on a messageboard on the website known as asexuality.org all the way back in 2006.
This is an orientation which does not define anything regarding the target of experienced attraction. Individuals who identify as graysexual may also identify as a specific romantic orientation (or other terms used to describe attraction) as a means to be more specific in self-expression. This is not required, and no one has a right to know all of the details of how another individual chooses to explain zir experiences.

For the page on the sub-type of graysexual known as demisexual, click on this sentence. Note that unlike with demisexuality, a strong emotional connection is not required prior to someone who is graysexual to experience sexual attraction to another individual. Attraction can occur, instead, seemingly at random.

The term graysexual is used to describe individuals who experience sexual attraction very rarely and/or with low intensity. Ze will experience sexual attraction to others more often than people who are asexual, but less often than those who are allosexual. Some people who identify as graysexual may not always be sure if what they are feeling towards other is or is not, in fact, sexual attraction. Some grayaces may go months or years without experiencing any sexual attraction.
People who are graysexual may or may not experience romantic attraction towards other people. They may or may not seek out sexual and/or romantic relationships with other people. Some people who identify as asexual but with "an exception" may fall under the label of graysexual.
Some people questioning whether or not they are graysexual or asexual may like the idea of identifying as asexual without feeling as though it is personally the right fit (as compared to graysexuality). The concept of asexuality generally needs to be understood when explaining the identity of graysexual, as it falls somewhere in between being asexual and allosexual.
