Terminal Hair - (n.) - Thick, dark hair which typically appears on the head, armpits, pubic region, and face (depending on hormones).
Testosterone - (n.) - The main malesex hormone in the human body. Supplemental testosterone is sometimes taken by trans people, usually with the intent of achieving a more masculine appearance.
The metaphorical place one goes when not freely admitting to be transgender. More of a headspace and social status rather than a literal, physical location.
This also applies not only to those who are not cisgender, but also those who are not heterosexual (or both). See also: closeted.
The Surgery - (n.) - A mysterious and frightening transformation spoken of by cis people who don’t know anything about how trans people actually transition.
They/Them - (pronoun) - A gender neutralpronoun set. Anyone can use this pronoun set if they wish to. It is generally considered polite to use this set of pronouns when referring to someone whose gender is unknown. It is impolite to use this pronoun set to refer to someone whose known pronoun set does not include these pronouns.
Third Gender - (n.) - A phrase used in anthropology for genders and gender roles that do not fit the Western constructs of “man” or “woman.” Some people find the phrase offensive because of its colonialist or Eurocentric associations.
Trade - (n.) - A man who casually/secretly dates gaymen without self-identifying as gay. Sometimes used to refer to men who will date transgender women, though not openly. Trades are often (though not always) transphobic/homophobic.
Trans+ - (adj.) - An umbrella term for referring to both the transgender community, and those who may not necessarily identify as transgender, but have overlapping experiences.
Term describing the phenomena wherein medical providers will center the transness of the patient over anything else. This typically consists of asking invasive, unrelated questions regarding the patient's medical transition; as well trying to connect unrelated symptoms to the transition process.
An umbrella term for all people and genders that do not match the gender that they were assigned at birth, or which was imposed on them by society, or which they were raised as.
When you do not identify as your AGAB. The opposite of cisgender.
Transgonadal - (adj.) - Describing one who desires/desired gonads which are different from what was present at birth.
Transgynephobia - (n.) - Bigotry directed at transfeminized individuals wherein the target of the bigotry is actively being transfeminized in a derogatory manner.
Transhormonal - (adj.) - Describing one who desires/desired sex hormones which are different from what their body was/is producing/attempting to produce.
Transhystericism - (n.) - Discrimination, oppression, or bigotry directed at any and all trans people who possess uteri, have possessed uteri, and those who were otherwise assigned "AFAB", including intersextrans people perceived as "AFAB" and some intersex people with no claimed "AFAB" at all.
Transintersex - (adj.) - A nonsensical term which falsely implies that one can transition to become intersex.
Transition - (n.) - To change one’s presentation to reflect a gender other than the one assigned at birth. Transitioning may include, but does not require, any of the following: changing one’s pronouns, wearing different clothing than before, altering one’s legal gender, taking hormone therapy, and undergoing surgery.
Transition Goals - (n.) - What an individual has planned for zir personal transition. The personalized "checklist" every trans person has in terms of what ze want to do with zir body. Transition goals will vary from person to person.
Transman - (n.) - Alternative spelling for trans man. Not recommended because it is sometimes seen as implying that “transman” is separate from “man,” a form of cissexism.
Transmedicalism - (n.) - The idea that all transgender women should seek to imitate cisgenderwomen as closely as possible, and that all transgendermen should seek to imitate cisgendermen as closely as possible. It is an ideology that excludes many transgender people who are gnc, nonbinary, or otherwise do not seek out typical transitions. When these beliefs are held by those in the medical field, it often results in discrimination against those who deviate from the norm.
Transmedicalist - (n.) - Someone who believes that you must experience extreme gender dysphoria, medically transition (or at least want to), and overall have an extremely binary, rigid, and conforming gender identity in order to be considered transgender. Transmeds are known to harass other trans people in order to try and appeal to cis people.
Transmisogynoir - (n.) - Term describing the intersection of transphobia, misogyny, transmisogyny, and racism as experienced by black transgender women.
Transmisogyny - (n.) - Refers to the intersection of discrimination, especially transphobia and misogyny, directed at transgender women (or anyone outwardly perceived as a transgender woman).
Transneutral - (adj.) - Umbrella term for those transitioning towards a neutral gender.
Transphobe - (n.) - A person who acts, thinks or speaks with transphobia.
Prejudice, stigma, or discrimination against trans, nonbinary and/or genderqueer people. Can occur as both an individual attitude and as a widespread social force.
Transphobic - (adj.) - Relating to or characteristic of transphobia.
Transracialphobia - (n.) - Term describing the intersection of transphobia and racism as experienced by transgender people of color.
Transreproductive - (adj.) - Describing one who desires/desired reproductive organs which are different from what was present at birth.
Older term used to refer to those who are transgender. Typically used as a synonym for transgender. More commonly used to refer to those who are binary and medically transition. The opposite of cissexual.
A person whose gender does not match their assigned sex (similar to transgender).
A person who has changed, or wishes to change, their anatomy to better reflect their true gender. This is a loaded term and should not be used to refer to someone without their permission. Some transsexual people do not identify as transgender.
Old-fashioned word for a person who wears clothing of another gender. Not to be confused with transgender or transsexual. A loaded term, not recommended (unless you are sure that the person you are describing prefers to be called this).
Someone who wears clothes/makeup/other indicators of gender expression which do not traditionally align with their gender identity. For example; a man wearing feminine clothing, or a woman wearing masculine clothing.
Transwoman - (n.) - Alternative spelling for trans woman. Not recommended because it is sometimes seen as implying that “transwoman” is separate from “woman,” a form of cissexism.
A word, object or other thing that sends a person into an intense state of anxiety, depression, dysphoria, or other negative feelings. Some people with gender dysphoria find that it is exacerbated by certain triggers.
A medical term used to refer to something that triggers a PTSD attack.
Trixic - (adj.) - Term used by nonbinary people who are attracted to women (whether exclusively or not).
T.W.O.C - (acronym) - Transgender Woman/Women Of Color
Two-Spirit/Two-Spirited - (adj.) - A gender, identity, social role, and/or tradition of some Native cultures of the Americas. This term should not be appropriated by non-Native people. Two-spirit people may or may not also identify as trans or nonbinary.
