Introduction

Salmacian is a term that refers to those who seek out unconventional bottom surgery with results that consist of both a penis and a vulva. This page will be discussing genitalia (though not in overwhelming detail). However, if that type of talk makes you feel uncomfortable, feel free to read a different page.

Not everyone who pursues phalloplasty is a binary transgender man. Not everyone who pursues vaginoplasty is a binary transgender woman. Not everyone who seeks out a gender-affirming surgery is transgender in the first place. Anyone of any gender identity or sexual orientation can identify as salmacian or seek out surgical results that could be described as such.

While nonbinary people are traditionally thought of as people who do not medically transition, this is not true. There are plenty of nonbinary people who experience gender dysphoria and/or seek to obtain gender euphoria through surgical and/or hormonal means. When this comes to surgeries regarding the genitalia, sometimes nonbinary people seek out non-traditional surgical routes.

Some transgender and/or nonbinary people seek out surgery without taking hormones ahead of time, though this can be difficult depending on the location, the surgery, or the surgeon. Some areas have the legal requirement that a patient must undergo hormone therapy. Some surgeons consider it an ethical requirement that a patient undergo hormone therapy prior to surgery for better results. There are typically variations of surgeries that allow for not taking hormones ahead of time, but they can be more difficult to obtain. There exists surgeons willing to perform surgeries for patients who do not desire hormone therapy alongside their preferred genital alterations, but they can be difficult to find.

General Information

Someone who is salmacian is someone who desires a mixed genital set. This typically means that the person wants to have both a penis and a vulva. This can be obtained through various surgeries. People who desire a mixed genital set typically identify as nonbinary, though not always.

For example; someone who was AFAB may get phalloplasty or metoidioplasty without getting a vaginectomy. Someone who was AMAB may get phallus-preserving vaginoplasty. Having surgeries to construct new genitalia without removing the previous genitalia can reduce complications, healing time, and hassle (depending on the surgical procedures involved). Some patients prefer to undergo less surgeries for personal convenience.

Having a mixed genital set is a desire that can stem from various reasons including but not limited to seeking gender euphoria, alleviating gender dysphoria, having more options during sexual intercourse, and maintaining fertility.

Salmacian Flag

The green in the flag represents normalization of genital non-conformity, and the aspiration towards having mixed genitals.

The yellow in the flag represents raising awareness of salmacians' existence, and gender euphoria from having mixed genitals.

The purple in the flag represents individualistic personal autonomy, and the fusion of different sexes.

The central emblem of the flag, the "Sign of Salmacis", consists of a lowercase sigma for “salmacian”, with waves to represent the sex-transforming Salmacis Spring of mythology.

Comparison to Intersex

In the past, the concept of beng Salmacian has been described as "transitioning to become intersex." This is impossible, inaccurate, and offensive for numerous reasons. Intersex variations are conditions that people are born with. You cannot surgically alter your body to become intersex. Furthermore, there are no intersex variations wherein a human being is born with a fully functioning set of both a vulva and a penis.

While it is true that some intersex people are born with ambiguous genitalia or gonadal dysgenesis, this is not the same as being born bigenital. Many people who are intersex are often subjected to I.G.M. as a result of simply being born atypical. To an intersex person who has been subjected to lifelong complications from this medical abuse, it is offensive to hear about people who think that willingly undergoing carefully conducted gender-affirming surgery as an adult is comparable to those experiences.

The gender dysphoria experienced by someone who is M.T.F. is generally that of someone who seeks to have a typical vulva. The gender dysphoria experienced by someone who is F.T.M. is generally that of someone who seeks to have a typical penis. The gender dysphoria experienced by someone who is salmacian is atypical. It is dysphoria for a genital set that is not naturally occuring. It can not and should not be compared to those who are intersex.
