Introduction

Having breasts is a common source of gender dysphoria for most people underneath the transmasculine umbrella, as well as some transneutral individuals. For those whose ideal transition involves no longer having breasts, there are various things that can be done about it. Binding (the usage of a binder or trans tape) is a temporary solution for some. Not everyone who undergoes surgery binds first, but it can be a helpful method of determining if one does indeed wish to later undergo surgery.

Anyone who wishes to undergo surgery should feel free to do so, regardless of gender identity, so long as they are fully informed on the procedure. Having breasts against one's will can be a great source of distress. That being said, there are some limitations on who can qualify for this surgery. If you had your heart set on this surgery, and managed to find a surgeon willing and able to perform it, it can be a great disappointment to find out that you are not eligible for it.

Why might it be difficult to find a surgeon? Well, unfortunately, fishmouth is a quite rare variant of a mastectomy. There are not a lot of surgeons who advertise being able to do it, and its simply not commonly done. If you have your heart set on this variation, I urge you to seek it out. Do what is best for your body, and have it altered in whatever way will personally make you feel more comfortable.

This atypical incision type is most popular among nonbinary transmasculine people, but as previously indicated, it may be sought out by anyone who simply likes the look. Hopefully, one day, it will be more readily accessible.
