Table of Contents

Introduction

Labial fusion is a genital variation commonly associated with various intersex variations such as C.A.H., aromatase deficiency, & progestin induced virilization. Not everyone who has labial fusion is considered intersex. Even those who may be considered intersex may not identify as intersex. People with labial fusion are typically afab, though may not always identify as women.

There are various ways in which this variation can manifest, as well as different causes. This variation is quite rare.

General Information

This is an intersex variation wherein the labia majora are fused together and appear similar to a scrotum. The most common variation of this will consist of the fusion being lower, though sometimes the fusion can be higher up or the labia can be sealed completely. Surgery is typically unnecessary unless the fusion is severe to the point of preventing comfortable urination.

Labial fusion can be present at birth or develop later in infancy.
