Introduction

This page is dedicated to discussing the gender identity known as "genderfae". This term falls under both the umbrella term nonbinary, and the umbrella term genderfluid. Essentially, the gender identity of genderfae is a specific variant of the gender identity of genderfluid, which additionally falls under under the broad category of nonbinary.

Despite these technicalities, not everyone who identifies as genderfae will also identify as genderfluid and/or nonbinary. How an individual chooses to describe their own gender identity will vary from person to person, as different people will find that different terms will more accurately describe their experiences.

General Information

Genderfae is a variant of genderfluid where one's gender never encompasses masculine or man-aligned genders. The gender of someone who is genderfae can fluctuate between any feminine genders, neutral genders, woman-aligned genders, or neutral-aligned genders.

The experience of being genderfae is essentially the same as being genderfluid, simply with the exclusion of relating to manhood and maleness.

There is no particular assigned sex that a person has to be to identify as genderfae. There are no particular pronouns that an individual must use while identifying as genderfae, however, those who identify as genderfae often use some combination of the following pronouns: she/her, they/them, or fae/faer. There is also no particular gender presentation an individual must display to be considered genderfae, however, most genderfae people will dress in some combination of femininity and androgyny.

It is not uncommon for genderfae enben to alternate between a feminine gender presentation and a genderless gender presentation; depending on the day, feelings, and personal preference.

The term genderfae was coined at some point in 2014 on a now defunct tumblr blog known as mogai-archive by an anonymous user. The opposite of genderfae is genderfaun.

The term "genderdoe" is sometimes used as a synonym for genderfae. Which term different individuals will use will vary from person to person.

Genderfae Pride Flag

If you identify as genderfae, or know someone who identifies as genderfae, consider showing off this pride flag to show community or support. Try making pins, bracelets, or other accessories with these colors to show your pride!

The original seven-stripe genderfae flag was created anonymously. No official meaning was provided other than the mention that the flag deliberately does not contain the color blue (as blue is often used to represent masculinity). The original flag was posted on the social media platform known as DeviantArt in January of 2017. In the comments of this post, the user known as "SEGASister" proposed meanings for these stripes, which will be utilized here.

The light green stripe represents nature and growth.

The chartreuse stripe represents curiosity and playfulness.

The yellow stripe represents androgyny and gender non-conformity.

The white stripe represents having a unique relationship with gender and womanhood.

The pink stripe represents femininity and intuition.

The lilac stripe represents love and beauty.

The lavender stripe represents magic and spirit.
